At Animal Humane Society, we specialize in second chances. Adoption is a crucial part of our mission, and we work tirelessly to help thousands of animals find a loving home each year – but we’re proud to be so much more than a shelter.

We’re creating a better world for animals and the people who love them through lifesaving services, community resources, and more. Here are five programs and services that AHS offers that may surprise you.

1. Pet training classes

AHS offers a variety of specialty and basic skills classes to bring out the best in your best friend. Our expert trainers use positive reinforcement techniques to empower you and your pup to thrive in real-world situations.

From puppy training classes to specialty training for leash-reactive dogs, AHS offers classes to fit your dog’s needs. With flexible times and locations, classes are easy to fit into your schedule – and every training pass purchased helps directly support animals in need.

Do you have questions about your cat’s behavior? AHS also offers virtual training options and a variety of free webinars to help your feline friend feel comfortable and confident in their home!

2. Youth camps and education programs

Whether you’re looking to foster a love of animals in your child or you want to celebrate your own love for animals, AHS has a fun, interactive education program for you

Our summer and school break camps offer a one-of-a-kind experience for young animal lovers. Each camp features animal-related educational activities, including games, crafts, animal interactions, and more.

For those dedicated animal advocates looking for a more hands-on way to help, Project Purpose gives students the opportunity to learn more about AHS while empowering them to make the world a better place for animals.

Adult animal lovers: don’t worry! We also offer a variety of fun programs for all ages, including Paint My Pet and Rescue Readers. And don’t forget to celebrate your next birthday with a party at AHS!

3. Low cost vet care

We know how strong the bond is between a pet and their people. That’s why providing the services and resources necessary to help more people keep and care for the pets they love is at the core of our mission.

From vaccinations to spaying and neutering, AHS provides vital veterinary services at an affordable cost to ensure more pets live healthier, happier lives with their families. Our compassionate veterinary staff offers a full range of medical and preventative care for everyone, with affordable standard fees and additional discounts based on income.

AHS also provides dental and specialty surgeries, such as dental cleanings, medically necessary amputations, and more.

4. Community Outreach

Animal Humane Society’s Community Outreach program connects pet parents with the resources they need to keep their pets happy and healthy, no matter the circumstances.

Our goal is always to keep pets and their people together, and we do so through a variety of resources and community partnerships, including monthly vaccine clinics, quarterly pet resource fairs, and free pet food and supplies.

AHS also offers support to community members experiencing short term crises, such as extended hospital stays or a sudden change in living situation, through our Temporary Pet Housing program. Individuals experiencing these hardships can work with a case worker to receive 60 days of temporary pet housing through our foster program.

If you’re currently facing a situation where you need assistance, please reach out to our Community Outreach team for support
